This two bedroom, two bath, 1,110 square foot single-family home was purchased through the NSI First Look program by Community Development Coalition Corporation (CDCC). It’s in the Mid-Westside community of Jacksonville, Florida, close to schools that offer a wide range of specialized educational programs, and near the University of Florida Hospital, a large employer. This area offers easy access to nearby interstates and Downtown.
The home has been updated well, and is now a decent, affordable rental home for a single mother and her children. It includes a front porch and two covered sunrooms, giving the family more living space.
Although CDCC encountered obstacles while renovating the home, including having a newly installed AC condenser unit stolen, they persevered and returned the home to the community’s affordable housing stock. New tile and hardwood flooring, new carpeting in the bedrooms, fresh paint throughout, and a new appliance package including a refrigerator, range, and dishwasher were included in the renovation. They fully refurbished the kitchen including new cabinets, countertops, sink, and plumbing fixtures, and in the bathrooms they replaced the cabinets, sinks, plumbing fixtures, and toilets, and also refinished the bathtub.
CDCC also installed a new HVAC system, new water heater, new 30-year architectural roof, new privacy fence, and new garage doors. The thorough renovation included the repair of internal wiring, replacement of interior and exterior lighting fixtures and outlets, and the installation of smoke detectors. A complete power-washing of the exterior of the home and all concrete surfaces was also completed.
